Travel towards the north of the province to the Alpes de Haute-Provence to see the main attractions this marvellous region has to offer.
Charming village at the entrance of Verdon
Your first stop will be the charming little village of Castellane. Upon approaching this hidden village dating back the 16th century, you soon come across the spectacular Verdon Gorges. Castellane has been a pilgrimage site for many centuries and its history dates back to the Middle Ages.
SUMPTUOUS LANDSCAPES AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE
We will admire the craggy cliffs to the Verdon river, descend the canyon stopping at the “Point Sublime” where you can enjoy a panoramic view of this unmissable landscape.
We will take the Route of the Ridges forms a 23km loop overlooking the legendary Verdon. 14 lookout points offer you an unobstructed view over this immense, grand canyon and its mythical cliffs.
With a bit of luck, you will come across Griffon Vultures, flying high between the cliffs, or nesting in the limestone rocks, and more often than not, you will come across brave rock climbers who regularly climb these steep, plunging cliffs.
Direction: Moustiers Sainte Marie
One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France
Leaving the impressive Point Sublime, we discover the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, where you can spend some free time wandering the quaint village streets and have lunch at your leisure.
Here you will also find the ceramic shops for which the village is known, and don’t miss out on the main attraction – the Notre Dame de Beauvoir Chapel, situated high up behind the ruins of the ancient walls of the village.
Constructed in the 8th century and restaured in the 12th century, this church is steeped in history and offers an unobstructed view over the tiled roofs and across the valley.
